Description

The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Golf Course Mechanic at the Village Green Golf Course in the Public Works Department. This skilled trades position performs intermediate work maintaining and repairing golf course equipment, implementing preventative maintenance programs and schedules, operating equipment, and related work as required.

HOURS: Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30 during golf season with some weekends in the summer months
Flexibility. 40 hours per week

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the Golf Course Mechanic include, but are not limited to the following major duties performed. Duties are listed from most to least important.

  • Repairs golf course equipment including golf carts, utility carts, reel type mowers, rough mowers, etc.
  • Maintains and implements preventative maintenance programs and schedules.
  • Trains seasonal employees on proper maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Sets daily maintenance schedules and prioritizes work.
  • Rebuilds, sharpens and adjusts equipment parts.
  • Performs vehicles and equipment inspections.
  • Facilitates warranty work on equipment and vehicles
  • Maintains and repairs shop buildings and tools.
  • Maintains inventories; orders fuel, supplies and parts.
  • Operates equipment as required including golf course equipment, mowers, pickup and dump truck, front loader, water pumps, sod cutters, weed trimmers, sprayers, aerators, reel grinding machine, bed knife grinder, etc.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform the Golf Course Mechanic successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associates/Technical degree preferred
  • One year experience in turf or auto mechanics and golf course equipment, or related field
  • Valid Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
The Golf Course Mechanic requires thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; thorough knowledge of small gasoline powered equipment; thorough knowledge of the type and uses of tools, supplies, equipment, procedures and techniques used in maintenance and repair work; thorough knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of equipment used; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of equipment; skill in operating required tools and equipment; ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals and mechanical diagrams; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling; work requires depth perception, color perception and night vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
