The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Truck Driver in the Sanitation division of the Public Works Department. This position will operate a sanitation truck and other waste collection vehicles on an assigned route, performing equipment and vehicle inspections and minor maintenance and repair of refuse containers, semi's, roll-off trucks and compost equipment, to include welding, replacing parts, painting, and related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following major duties performed. Duties are listed from most to least important.
• Operates sanitation truck picking up refuse, solid waste and recyclables on assigned route; transports to disposal areas.
• Operates roll-off truck; loads and unloads boxes to meet regulatory guidelines; completes paperwork.
• Separates recyclables as required.
• Operates mechanisms for compressing and dumping refuse.
• Conducts pre-trip inspection of truck.
• Cleans sanitation truck and equipment.
• Performs routine inspections and minor maintenance on vehicle and equipment.
• Oversees personnel assigned to truck.
• Responds to complaints.
• Performs other duties as requested.
• Attendance at off-site courses/trainings/seminars may be required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.

Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Six months experience as a truck driver, or related experience

Training, Certificates, and Licenses
• Valid commercial driver's license with Class "B" and air brake endorsement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
General knowledge of the operation and servicing of automotive equipment; general knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operations; general knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work; skill in operating automotive equipment; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to detect signs of the mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work requires depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
