Golf Course Assistant Superintendent
HOURS: Monday-Friday, generally 6:00am to 2:30pm, or could start later depending on daylight.Some weekend mornings for 4 to 5 hours.
The City of Moorhead is accepting applications for a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent in the Public Works Department. This skilled trade position performs intermediate/difficult work assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with daily golf maintenance activities, supervising and participating in preparing and maintaining public course and related facilities, preparing and maintaining records and files, assisting the Park Maintenance and Street Division in the winter months, and related work as required. This position serves as a lead worker and exercises general supervision over assigned staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Shared position: This position will perform golf duties as needed when the courses are open or preparing to open and will perform Street Division and/or Park Maintenance work in the winter months as directed.
- At the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, leads and coordinates daily golf maintenance activities; including assigns duties and oversees work of Golf Mechanics, Golf Technicians, and seasonal staff as assigned.
- Assists the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent with planning, organizing, developing and supervising procedures for the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course, grounds, fairways, tees and greens, and clubhouse.
- Assists the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent with budget recommendations, capital expenditures, and monitoring of the approved budget.
- Operates equipment associated with golf course maintenance, such as greens, fairway and rough mowers, utility carts, tractor, sprayer, etc.
- Applies fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides; maintains fertilizer and chemical records.
- Assists the Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent with the development of schedules for mowing and triming to maintain ideal playing conditions.
- Maintains inventory; notifies Golf Course Maintenance Superintendent when there is a need to purchase required equipment or specialized tools.
- Monitors and maintains golf course irrigation systems; including assisting with the installation of irrigation systems and drainage fields.
- Performs routine repairs of turf maintenance and other equipment.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate records, files and reports.
- Performs snow and ice control duties or other Street Division and/or Park Maintenance duties during winter months; including park trail clearing, outside rink maintenance, and streets maintenance.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Supervisory Position: Performs or effectively recommends the hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, discharge, assignment, reward, discipline, direction of work, and adjustment of grievances of subordinate personnel.
REQUIREMENTS
To perform the Streets Truck Driver position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training required.
- High school diploma or GED; Associates/Technical degree preferred
- One year experience in related field
- Minnesota Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 3 months of hire
- Valid driver's license
- Valid commercial driver's license with Class "B" and air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of golf course maintenance principles, methods, materials and practices; thorough knowledge of golf course equipment operation, maintenance and repair manuals; ability to read and understand technical documents such as engineering and architectural drawings, electrical and mechanical diagrams and irrigation maps; ability to train and supervise the work of staff; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to write clear and concise documentation and reports; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to analyze data and make recommendations; ability to maintain accurate records; skill in operating of golf course equipment; ability to operator park maintenance and street mainetenance equipment, including snow removal equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, course guests, and the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to vibration and wearing a self contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
