Make a career transition to Police Officer!

The City of Moorhead Police Department has been awarded a grant through the State of Minnesota to provide education and training to become a Licensed Peace Officer with the City of Moorhead for individuals that qualify.

The Intensive Comprehensive Police Officer Education and Training (ICPOET) grant allows non-traditional or career transition individuals who have a qualified 2-year or 4-year degree in any field to obtain training to become a Police Officer with the City of Moorhead.

  • Must be able to start employment at Moorhead PD by approximately January 2025.
  • Attend training beginning approximately March 1st through approximately July 2025 at Alexandria Technical College. Classes are 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, except holidays. Includes education, training and Police Officer specific “SKILLS” training and testing. (exact dates will be updated soon)
  • Paid housing in Alexandria, travel and meal costs are covered when school is in session through a stipend.
  • Paid for attending the training up to 40 hours per week at $26.00 per hour.
  • Eligible for Police Officer Recruitment Bonus of $3,500 per policy guidelines once transition to Police Officer position with the City of Moorhead upon testing and passing the MN POST to become a licensed peace officer.
  • Upon completing your training and successfully passing the licensing exam, you will become a sworn Police Officer, embarking on your law enforcement career with the City of Moorhead.

Requirements

  • Possess a qualifying two- or four-year degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pass all pre-employment screenings such as oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychiatric evaluation, physical, job function test and drug test
  • Agree to our Work Retention Agreement

The Moorhead Police Department has an authorized staff of 64 sworn officers who have a positive reputation of providing community policing and high-quality professional police services to our residents and large college population. The department is large enough to provide experience in a variety of rewarding specialized law enforcement initiatives including field training, internal instructor positions, K-9, SWAT/Bomb /Negotiations, School Resource Officers, DARE, and Investigations to build your career, yet small enough to be a tight-knit family.
